Trivial Pursuit?

As I'm sitting in the studio at work, I'm also on FoxNews.com and I stumbled upon an article entitled,

"Wal-Mart Worker Trampled to Death Lacked Training, Attorney says."

Read the article here.

At first glance, this title is surprising, but then again, it's not. Every year we hear about crowds of people racing all for the sake of getting...

STUFF

While reading the article, I noticed that the victim was a 6'5", 270 lb. grown man. He was placed at the entrance for crowd control because of his huge frame, but was trampled by nearly 2,000 people who were in "frantic pursuit of bargains on big-screen TVs, clothing and other items." Who cares if he "lacked training!" The mere fact that people behave like heathens and animals is enough! What have we become? How far must we go before God says, "Enough!"

Flight

Flight

For the week of Thanksgiving, Michelle and I flew to Ft. Worth, Texas to surprise her parents. You can read all about that amazing week at her blog, Undeserving of Grace.

The whole week was a huge blessing in many ways, but here, I want to highlight one in particular. This trip was my first airplane flight ever and my first trip to Texas. On the way there, we flew at night and when we were turning to set up to land, our side of the plane was able to see the stars and I was amazed at the very sight of them. I was like a kid in a candy store!

But the whole climax of the flight was when we were flying back during the day. I was pretty much an emotional wreck, not from nerves or anything like that, but because of what I saw out the window...

As Michelle slept the whole flight (1.5 hours), I cried about half that time. I have never seen anything like this before! As I cried and listened to my mp3 player, the only thing I could do was read Psalm 97:1-6. How great is our God!

As I read the Psalms, I considered the fact that although the psalmists proclaimed that the heavens declare the glory of God, they never saw the other side of the clouds. This has deepened my view of Psalm 19:1-6. When we have the opportunity to see on the other side of the clouds, we see more than the psalmists and we see proof that God is here. Lately, I have been reminded that God is not a God that is far away, but as Psalm 73:25-28 mentions, "the nearness of God is my good." Praise Jesus!! We are now near to God because of the blood of Jesus: Ephesians 2.

May you come to realize even more that the heavens and all of creation declare the greatness AND nearness of God! May you be broken and humbled before our great God!
